Professionalism in safe practice of Chinese herbal medicine and its way forward
The Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) introduced the new Guidelines for safe practice of Chinese herbal medicine on 16 Nov 2015. The Guidelines will formally effect in November 2017. Dr Sherman Gu will systematically and comprehensively interpret these guidelines and highlight the essentials for attention by using some previous cases from discipline hearing. Please bring in your Chinese herbal medicine prescriptions or labels for his comments. Dr Bill Fan will demonstrate how to use a Chinese medicine management software to record and print prescriptions or labels meet CMBA’s requirements.

Dr Sherman Gu graduated from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. He has been practising Chinese medicine since. He completed his postgraduate study in RMIT University where he currently engages with teaching and research in Chinese medicine. Dr Gu has been appointed by the Attorney-General of Victorian Government as a sessional member of Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for discipline hearings since 2007. He has attended a few hearings and his appointment has been renewed by the Victorian Government in 2012 when Chinese medicine profession has been legislatively regulated in Australia. Dr Gu is also a Queensland Chinese Medicine Panel of Assessor in Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) appointed by the Acting Governor of Queensland. Dr Gu has rich experience in dealing with professional issue. Dr Gu led a team to draft FCMA submission for response to consultation paper of Draft Guidelines for safe Chinese herbal medicine practice issued by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia 2014.
